Recently, I was doomscrolling somewhere and read something that gave me pause. A matriarchy might not actually just be a gender-flipped patriarchy. When I was writing about Angel One, I fell into the trap of accepting that it would be, based on what was written in the episode — and the episode was written expressly to examine male supremacy, so in that context I’m not going to fault the episode for it.
At some point, I need to read about matriarchal societies (they do exist on Earth) and reevaluate Angel One through that lens.
